Led by Representative of Indonesia to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), Mr. Rafendi Djamin, the AICHR hosted the first ever Dialogue between the AICHR and the ASEAN Community Councils on the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration (AHRD) and the Phnom Penh Statement on the Adoption of the AHRD. The Dialogue was held on 25 – 26 May 2015 at the Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Indonesia, which was also supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
Public Debate: “ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism Post-2015 – An Indonesian Perspective”
More than one hundred (100) key national stakeholders – coming from relevant government agencies, academe, media, civil society, and members of the diplomatic corps gathered in Erasmus Huis on Tuesday, 21 April 2015. It was for a Public Debate entitled “ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism Post-2015 – An Indonesian Perspective”, which was organized by the Representative of Indonesia to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), and supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Sharing national experience on human rights implementation in ASEAN
The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) organized a regional workshop on domestication of human rights obligations, 17-18 December 2014 in Luanprabang, Lao PDR. In attendance of the workshop were H.E. Mr Bounkeut Sangsomsak, Minister of Justice, H.E. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, the incoming Chair of AICHR, Representative of Malaysia to AICHR, H.E. Mr Phoukhong Sisoulath, Representative of Lao PDR to AICHR, Director General of the Department of Treaties and Law, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Among the participants were AICHR Representatives or alternates from ASEAN Member States, representatives from ASLOM, ACWC, ACW, ACMW, AIPA, ASEAN Secretariat, law and justice agencies and institutions of ASEAN Member States.

Led by the Indonesian Representative to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), Mr. Rafendi Djamin, the AICHR held a four-day Training of Trainers on ASEAN Human Rights Mechanisms for ASEAN Member States Law Enforcement Officers from 27-30 November 2014 at Pullman Hotel in Bali, Indonesia. The training, which was opened by H.E. Ambassador Kyaw Tint Swe as Chair of the AICHR, was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Indonesia and Regional EU-ASEAN Dialogue Instrument (READI) Facility.
