AICHR Regional Workshop on the Reporting Obligations: Sharing experience and best practices

As part of the implementation of its Five Year Work Plans, the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) conducted a Regional Workshop on the Reporting Obligations, which was hosted by Viet Nam in Ha Noi on 3 – 4 July 2014. The Workshop was opened by welcome remarks from H.E. Mr. Pham Quang Vinh, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam.

Second Regional Consultation on the Contribution to the Review of the Terms of Reference of the AICHR and the Special Meeting of the AICHR

            The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) conducted a two-day Regional Consultation with stakeholders on the contribution to the review of the Terms of Reference (TOR) of the AICHR on 27 – 28 June 2014. This is the second Consultation that the AICHR has conducted, following the first Consultation organized in Jakarta, Indonesia in April 2014.

Workshop on CSR and Human Rights in ASEAN: Outcomes of the AICHR Thematic Study

The first-ever thematic study completed by the AICHR was the subject of discussion at the “Workshop on CSR and Human Rights in ASEAN: Outcomes of the AICHR Thematic Study” hosted by Singapore on 13-14 June 2014. The AICHR Representatives welcomed the completion of the Baseline Study for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Human Rights in ASEAN, a path-breaking study embarked on by the AICHR in December 2011.

In an effort to foster greater engagement and functional cooperation, the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) held a consultation meeting with the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC) on 25 April 2014 at the ASEAN Secretariat. This was the second meeting between the two human rights mechanisms in ASEAN after their first meeting in November 2011, in Bali, Indonesia. The consultation meeting was co-chaired by H.E. U Kyaw Tint Swe, the Chair of the AICHR and H.E.Datin Paduka Intan Md. Kassim, the Chair of the ACWC.

AICHR Regional Workshop on Millennium Development Goals Post 2015 and Human Rights


The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) organized a two day Regional Workshop on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Post 2015 and Human Rights in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 11-12 December 2013. The Regional Workshop was held by AICHR Indonesia with support from the Directorate General of ASEAN Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and the Regional EU-ASEAN Dialogue Instrument (READI) Facility.

Lao PDR Prepares an Initial Report under ICCPR

On 12 December 2013, at the International Convention and Training Center (ICTC) in Vientiane, the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Regional Office organized a Workshop on Reporting under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The Lao PDR ratified the ICCPR in 2009 and is in the preparatory process for the country’s Initial Report. Attending the Workshop were officials from line ministries and institutions appointed as coordinating persons under the National Steering Committee on Human Rights established since 2012.
