The AICHR is guided by the ASEAN Charter, Cha-Am Hua Hin Declaration on the Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights, the TOR of the AICHR and the purposes and principles contained therein.
The fourteen mandates of the AICHR are translated into its Five-Year Work Plans, which outlined the AICHR’s priority areas on human rights and aimed at realising the aspiration of the people of ASEAN on human rights, strengthening the AICHR, promoting awareness on human rights in ASEAN and enhancing cooperation with external partners, thereby complementing the building of the ASEAN Community.
