AICHR launches two training resources on trafficking in persons
JAKARTA, 1 August 2023 – The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) launched two training resources related to countering trafficking in persons, especially women and children on 21 July. The launch was held in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on 30 July.
The two training resources are the AICHR Training Guide: Community Policing Approach to Counter Trafficking in Persons in ASEAN Member States, and the AICHR Training Manual: Human Rights, Gender Sensitive and Child-Friendly Approaches to Trafficking in Persons Cases for Frontline Officers.
In her opening remarks, AICHR Chair and Representative of Indonesia, Wahyuningrum emphasised the need to strengthen multi-stakeholder collaboration in capacity building initiatives, incorporating whole-of-government and whole-of-ASEAN-communities approaches in addressing trafficking in persons, as the issue is becoming complex and evolving very quickly.
Similarly, Australian Ambassador to ASEAN, Will Nankervis stressed that trafficking in persons is a heinous crime that requires multi-disciplinary and transnational efforts to ensure and protect trafficking victims’ human rights and those vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation.
The training resources are one of the outputs of the implementation of the AICHR’s activities conducted in 2021 in partnership with the Australian Government-funded program, ASEAN-Australia Counter Trafficking.
The publication of the two training resources to counter trafficking in persons is part of the implementation of the AICHR’s Five-Year Work Plan 2021-2025 and is AICHR’s contribution to the implementation of the ASEAN Convention Against Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children and ASEAN Cross-Sectoral Work Plan on Trafficking in Persons or the Bohol Trafficking in Persons Work Plan 2017-2020.
The two training resources are now available on the AICHR website: www.aichr.org
