ASEAN Youth Competition on Arts and Human Rights
In view of the adoption of the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration (AHRD) by the ASEAN Leaders in November 2012, the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) is organising the “ASEAN Youth Competition on Arts and Human Rights”. The Competition aims to raise awareness about human rights and the AHRD among its youths and encourage their participation in raising awareness on the promotion and protection of human rights. The Competition is open to young nationals from all ten ASEAN Member States between the ages of 18 to 25.
To reach out to as many youth participants as possible in all ten ASEAN nations, the Competition will be held in two rounds; the first round to be held at the national level, whereas the second round will be conducted regionally. Participants will submit their artworks (drawings) to the national Designated Office in their country of residence. Each national organising committee will choose one best drawing from each country to be submitted to the ASEAN Secretariat for a region-wide contest. The AICHR will select the winner of the best artwork to be the overall winner.
Not only corresponding to the competition’s theme, the drawings must also be original and authentic works by contest participants. The artworks must represent the AHRD, and explain the human rights values contained within the artwork through a short narrative. The winner at the national and regional levels will receive a cash prize.
Be a part of the ASEAN Youth Competition on Arts and Human Rights! Submit your drawings to your national designated office before Friday, 30 May 2014. The address of the national designated office, requirements, registration form and waiver form is available through the links below.
