Singapore, 10-11 July 2014
The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) convened a Special Meeting, in Singapore on 10 – 11 July 2014. The meeting was chaired by H.E. U Kyaw Tint Swe, the Representative of Myanmar to AICHR and the Chair of the AICHR.
Pursuant to Article 9.7 of the TOR, the AICHR shall assess its work and submit recommendations for the consideration of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM) on future efforts that could be undertaken in the promotion and protection of human rights within ASEAN consistent with the principles and purposes of the ASEAN Charter and the TOR. The meeting focused on the consolidation of inputs to the review of the AICHR’s TOR. The AICHR Representatives began discussions on the inputs gathered from the two regional consultations with stakeholders conducted in April and June.
The AICHR also adopted the AICHR’s contribution to the development of the ASEAN Community’s Post-2015 Vision.
The AICHR will have another meeting on 6 – 9 August 2014, in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, in preparation for the interface meeting with the AMM. The AICHR will be submitting, among other documents, the report on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Human Rights, its first thematic study report, to the ASEAN Foreign Ministers.
