On Friday 3 November 2013, seven youth leaders from Myanmar paid a visit to H.E. Dr. Seree Nonthasoot, Thailand Representative to the AICHR, at his office at the Institute of Research and Development for Public Enterprises in Bangkok, Thailand in order to learn about the AICHR’s mechanisms and relevant issues to human rights.
In this meeting Dr. Seree talked about the roles of the AICHR in the promotion and protection of human rights in ASEAN. He emphasised the importance of networking among youth leaders as an indispensable part of Civil Society Organization movement and community-building process in ASEAN, especially in 2014 when Myanmar will become the chair of ASEAN. He also suggested that Myanmar CSOs should engage more with their government to strengthen and develop human rights capacity and understanding in Myanmar. Finally, he invited the youth leaders to exchange their views on human rights in the Community and in their own country.
