ASEAN Human Rights Dialogue with the Government of Indonesia

The Government of Indonesia invited the Representatives of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) for a Human rights Dialogue on 25 June 2013, at the ASEAN Secretariat.

The AICHR Representatives, or their alternate, will first pay a courtesy call to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, H.E. Mr. R.M. Marty Natalegawa.

This dialogue will be a forum for Indonesia and AICHR as the human rights regional mechanism to discuss human rights related issues. The outcome of this dialogue will be used to enhance Indonesia’s efforts in promoting and protecting human rights in Indonesia, moreover it will also benefits for the human rights situation in the region. This dialogue represents the situation developments of the Government of Indonesia’s efforts in improving the human rights situation on the ground as well as in addressing compelling challenges faced.

The Government of Indonesia will be sharing its national programmes and activities on the promotion and protection of human rights, such as human rights training, ratification of international human rights instruments, Millennium Development Goals, as well as the protection of the rights of women and children. The Government of Indonesia is of the view that the human rights dialogue with AICHR, as overarching institution on human rights in ASEAN, will give significant contribution to the achievement of ASEAN in human rights matters.
