AICHR Regional Workshop on MDGs Post 2015 and Human Rights
The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) organized a two day Regional Workshop on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Post 2015 and Human Rights in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 11-12 December 2013. The Regional Workshop was held by AICHR Indonesia with support from the Directorate General of ASEAN Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and the Regional EU-ASEAN Dialogue Instrument (READI) Facility.

13th Meeting of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR)

Brunei Darussalam, 16 – 18 December 2013

The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) convened its Thirteenth Meeting on 16 to 18 December 2013 in Brunei Darussalam. The Meeting was chaired by H.E. Pehin Dato Dr. Awang Hj. Ahmad bin Hj. Jumat, the Representative of Brunei Darussalam and the Chair of the AICHR.

Lao PDR Prepares an Initial Report under ICCPR

On 12 December 2013, at the International Convention and Training Center (ICTC) in Vientiane, the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Regional Office organized a Workshop on Reporting under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The Lao PDR ratified the ICCPR in 2009 and is in the preparatory process for the country’s Initial Report. Attending the Workshop were officials from line ministries and institutions appointed as coordinating persons under the National Steering Committee on Human Rights established since 2012.

Philippines Promotes Human Rights-Based Approach to Combat Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, in ASEAN

The Philippines, through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Justice – Inter-agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), hosted an ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Regional Workshop on the Human Rights-Based Approach to Combat Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, in Makati from 27 to 28 November 2013.

Myanmar Youth Forum

On Friday 3 November 2013, seven youth leaders from Myanmar paid a visit to H.E. Dr. Seree Nonthasoot, Thailand Representative to the AICHR, at his office at the Institute of Research and Development for Public Enterprises in Bangkok, Thailand in order to learn about the AICHR’s mechanisms and relevant issues to human rights.

A Consultation between Representative of Thailand to the AICHR and Representatives from CSOs on ‘the Draft Guidelines of the AICHR’s Relations with CSOs’

A consultation between H.E. Dr. Seree Nonthasoot, Thailand Representative to the AICHR, and representatives from CSOs on ‘the Draft guidelines of the AICHR’s relations with CSOs’ was held on Monday 23 September 2013 at the Institute of Research and Development for Public Enterprises in Bangkok, Thailand. Participants of this consultation included representatives from CSOs in a field of human rights and Dr. Sriprapha Petcharamesree, the first Thailand Representative to and the first chairperson of the AICHR.

A Consultation on ‘the AICHR’s Thematic Study on Migration’

A consultation on ‘the AICHR’s thematic study on Migration’ was organised by H.E. Dr. Seree Nonthasoot, Thailand representative to the AICHR, on 17 October 2013, at Institute of Research and Development for Public Enterprises in Bangkok, Thailand. Participants of this consultation included experts in the field of migration, who are from relevant government agencies (Ministry of Labor, Office of the National Security Council and Immigration Bureau), academic institutes and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
